Live QH Racing, 30th Anniversary Season Festivities, A Diamond Dig Set For Opening Weekend At SHRP

HOUSTON, TX–APRIL 19, 2024–The 2024 Quarter Horse racing season at Sam Houston Race Park, presented by 811 Call Before You Dig, gets underway on Friday, (APR 19) with live racing and special events set for Friday and Saturday evening.

Opening night festivities pay tribute to the 30th anniversary of Sam Houston Race Park. Fans are invited to make their way to Center Club Level in the grandstand to enjoy commemorative items including hats, glasses, and cupcakes (while supplies last).

Many special moments were celebrated throughout the recently concluded Thoroughbred racing season and the 30th anniversary of Sam Houston Race Park will continue through the 25-day Quarter Horse meet.

Ghost Witha Fire Was En Fuego Winning Featured Allowance, Upsetting Dollar Bill In Process

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–APRIL 18, 2024– Dollar Bill, a half-million dollar earner and the 4-5 wagering favorite in the featured allowance Thursday night, was knocked off stride at the beginning of the 350-yard race at Remington Park. That opened the gate for Ghost Witha Fire to pull off the upset at 10-1 odds.

Dollar Bill had won six-of-eight starts lifetime and never run out of the money in those eight tries. Things were different after he was hit like a linebacker at the start by Awesome View, the rival to his immediate left in the starting gate. Dollar Bill could only manage a fifth-place finish. Beehive Futurity Headlines 12-Race Program at Weber Downs

OGDEN, UT–APRIL 18, 2024–Casey Whitaker's Promontory, a homebred son of champion KVN Coro-na and the fastest qualifier, is one of a dozen 2-year-olds entered back in Saturday's 300-yard, $82,446 Beehive Futurity (R) for juveniles sired by participating stallions.

Promontory made his official career debut with a 1 1/4-length victory in the last of six trials on April 6. Sergio Canales trains the colt.

Challenge Trials Dominate Opening-Night Program at Sam Houston Race Park

HOUSTON, TX—APRIL 16, 2024—Sam Houston Race Park will open its 2024 American Quarter Horse meet with a 10-race program dominated by Bank of America Racing Challenge trials. Post time for the first race, a 300-yard first-level allowance dash for sophomore fillies, is set for 6:30 p.m. (CDT) on Friday, April 19.

Twenty-nine 3-year-olds are entered in three 400-yard Adequan Sam Houston Derby Challenge trials. The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the May 10, $40,000-added final.

Lefty, a graded stakes placed son of This Is An Eagle trained by Martin Rodriguez for owner Francisco Guadalupe Guerrero, drew post 8 and will be ridden by Francisco Giles in the first heat.
